I’m reading a new book.
What does that word even mean? What does that kind of life look like? Well, I’m learning that in this book. A friend recommended this book because we both struggle with similar things. We long for the more peaceful and ordered life. We wear ourselves in search for it.
In the meantime, we multitask like nobody’s business. We are distracted with things of this world via technology. We compare ourselves to others. We try to impress. And it’s exhausting. We keep ourselves busy and our lives complicated. We are kept from what is most important: time to get to know our Father and know what it is that He desires for us.
Headed into this study I didn’t realize just what what it was about. Simplicity comes from my heart. It comes from rest, peace, trust and contentment. And where is the only place to find that? It’s with God.
We simplify, not just to be less busy, even though we may be right to pursue that. Rather, we simplify to remove distractions from our
pursuit of Christ. We prune activities from our lives, not only to get organized, but also that our devotion to Christ and service for His kingdom will be more fruitful. We simplify, not merely to save time, but to eliminate hindrances to the time we devote to knowing Christ. All the reasons we simplify should eventually lead us to Jesus Christ./em> Donald Whitney
So I have a ton to learn, but I am ready. Aren’t you?
